Film Review: Hero (Jet Li)

Quiz 1

The change in the dominant colors implies a meaning – what is it?

The change in the dominant colors represents the different versions of the story that’s being told.
*Red - The color red signifies a lie. When Nameless makes up the story to explain how he defeated the assassins, otherwise the Emperor will suspect conspiracy.
*Blue - The color blue signifies the belief of the King. The Emperor's version of what most likely happened, that Nameless did not defeat them, but they volunteered to sacrifice themselves for the mission.
*White - The color white signifies the truth. The true storyline of what really happened.
*Green – The color green signifies the past, which explains why the Emperor is still alive and why he shouldn't be killed. It also explains why Broken Sword didn't help to fend off the arrows.

Quiz 2

Who is the “hero” in the film?

The hero in the film is “Nameless” (Jet Li). Even though he is the primary conspirator behind the elaborate plan to assassinate the Emperor, he ultimately decides that China's unification and peace are far more important than vengeance for his family.

Me, myself and I

"I aim to top, not to pass, because if I pass, I fail”, this has been my motto in life for several months now; and I believe to the most logical work of philosophy which is embedded in eight words that says “Stay if you’re happy, Leave if you’re not. I am no one special, just a common man with common thoughts. I don’t want to claim that I’m special but I’m a bit special.

I am Yurixandrei Castro Cruz, you can call me Yuri or Andrei for short. I’m eighteen years old and the youngest among the five siblings of Virgilio Cruz (deceased), a police officer and Lorna Cruz, a government employee at Camp Aguinaldo. The adjectives that would best describe me were being unpredictable, wholesome; adventurous, I’m a daredevil. I want to do anything and everything; insecure, I’m very insecure almost about everything and you’ll hate being like that but for me it’s not a weakness, it proves I am human; optimistic, I always look on the brighter of every situation and always a little surprising. Just by looking at me, you could probably tell that I’m addicted in styling up myself with anything luxurious, but that’s not all I’m into. I’m also a taekwondo player, a yellow belter to be specific. I love chatting in the computer and reading interesting books. So far, my favorites are “The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery, Harry Potter books and the Twilight saga. Music is my life. I listen to a whole variety of music, from nursery rhymes to hype music, from love song to hiphop. I mean without music where would we be? I also love acting, singing, dancing and rocking out in awkward and random situations, who cares if you look funny, if you're having fun? if it has a good beat, a good tempo and it isn't just a bunch of fast speaking and racket like rap, scream and heavy metal, I will probably listen to it. I really don't watch much TV. When I do that means there is nothing going on in my life. I hate it when that happens, but the shows I try to watch when I'm not busy were One Piece, MYX, Amazing Race, One Tree Hill, The O.C., Kyle XY, Cheaters, Parental Control and 9O21O. My aspirations in life were I want to make history and I want to write it. I want to be a theater actor, a p**n s**r, a broadcaster, a commercial model, a pilot, an inspirational leader, a trendsetter, a musician, an author and live a happy life.

As a Mass Communication student, I want to be able to come up with a story that’s relevant. I want to expand my horizon through my majors in journalism, public relations, advertising and broadcasting, for me to share and improve my views, opinions, ideas and knowledge. I think this is the right platform. In life, I know there’s a big chance that people don’t like me. However, there’s even a bigger chance that I don’t care. Well, you’ve heard me babble for a bit, so what about you?

What is RH Bill 5043?

The RH Bill 5043 or the Reproductive Health Bill has been at the center of much of the heated debate which has been revolving around such issues as poverty, family planning, contraceptives and the role of the church in our nation’s progress as it deals with population.

The Reproductive Health Bill main proponent Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman succeeded in sponsoring the implementation of the RH Bill. However, the Catholic Church strongly opposed the bill.

The political side or the Pro-RH Bill commended that the bill want to make an informed choice regarding the family planning of our fellow citizens, make them to have a responsible parenthood and help the couples achieve their desired fertility. The bill will also take effects on our country’s rapid population growth, decrease the maternal and child mortality, and prevent unwanted pregnancy, reduced teenage pregnancy, and to achieve a favourable balance between the population and our limited economic resources.

The Catholic Church was against the promulgation of the RH Bill for some reasons: the church only promotes the natural family planning method for married couples while prohibits singles from engaging in premarital sex; the church teachings said “Go forth and multiply”, in which Our creator wants us to spread and be merry; and it support values education instead of the RH education for school children. For instance, a grade 5 elementary student won’t understand fully the RH Bill or sex education at their very young age. RH Bill is partly useless. Since it’s main target are the low class families or the poor, what’s the use of RH Bill and sex education if the person your aiming to stop is not schooling.

All the arguments regarding the two opposing sides are stated, but still it’s in the hands of the Congress whether or not to implement the RH Bill?
